Archives For Psalms

This is a promise I hold onto daily.

It is encouraging to me to think that God sees all of the tough times that I have endured in life, and has a record of it:

You Yourself have recorded my wanderings.
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your records?

- Psalm 56:8 (HCSB)

This shows to me that God is sympathetic to all that I go through in this life. He’s not ignorant of the day-to-day details of my life.

David repeats a key phrase in this Psalm, “in God I trust; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” That is a great principle to base my life upon… Everyday, I’m faced with worries, fears, struggles, etc that this world (and the enemy) will throw at me; so I need to put my trust in God. With Him in control, I have nothing to fear! There’s not one thing that man can do to me without God knowing about it. Throughout the Psalms, God gives the promise to His followers that He is a shelter and a stronghold in times of trouble. He’s all-knowing and all-powerful, and He holds my life in His hand. As Paul says in Philippians, I shouldn’t worry about anything!

original Psalm

March 28, 2011

For my class at Dallas Theological Seminary on the Psalms, I was required to write 2 Psalms. One was a Psalm of lament and the other was a Psalm of praise. Here’s the Psalm of lament…

1 This world is broken,

The earth is in desperate need of restoration.

2 Every world system falls to pieces when left to itself,

Governments are corrupt and self-serving.

3 Man is just as broken as the world he inhabits.

Mankind is headed for destruction.

4 Poverty is rampant, disease fills the earth;

Nations are at war, violence is everywhere.

5 Children live without food,

Mothers have no access to clean water.

6 Nature wreaks havoc and has its way with the earth;

The worlds shakes and nations are destroyed.

7 God, how long will you make the earth suffer?

Will you make mankind wait forever for restoration?

8 The only hope for the world is found in God.

Man finds his future in the Lord of hosts.

9 Lord, come quickly to save the earth!

Restore Your creation to what you intended!

10 The world waits for Your healing touch,

Do not delay!

11 Show Your power and Your strength,

Crush your enemies forever.
